The sculpture identifies and highlights a hint of the Lithuanian national tricolor in a surprising object.
The naturally yellow color of the most ordinary potato coincides with the uppermost color of the tricolor, further accentuated with bands of green and red which encircle the simple shape not unlike ceremonial ribbons, launching the mundane vegetable into a new level of elevation that conveys a sense of meaning. The skin of the potato has a rough and uneven texture. Its tapestry of patches and imperfections speaks of wounds and scars that develop in growth. With an intriguing non-uniform shape, it defies symmetry, creating an engaging off-balance interaction with its abstract plane underneath, which is only completed by the observer's imagination.
The sculpture calls attention to the apparent contradiction between the deceptively trivial natural object and the complex markers of the human identity.
